Joy to the World!
There are many questions people ask about the birth of Jesus. Some of them are: Where was Jesus born? When was Jesus born? How was Jesus born? Also, why was Jesus born? Matthew says Jesus was born in Bethlehem. Luke tells us about the miraculous conception. He tells us that Jesus was born during the time of the first census called for by Caesar Augustus while Quirinius was governing Syria. Luke also tells us that He was named Jesus for He will save His people from their sins. However, in my mind, the most crucial question that needs an answer is: who were those for whom Jesus was born?
The birth of Jesus was announced not only to the shepherds who were watching their sheep in the local Judean hills but also to the Magi from the Far East! Jesus' birth was not only announced to the lowly shepherds but also the rich kings of the East! His birth was not only announced to the elite but also to those who were doing what they did every day and every night- people going through the routines of life; people living ordinary lives. Christmas is about God meeting us, ordinary people like you and me, living ordinary lives in ordinary places. The birth of Jesus was an event that changed history. When He is born in our hearts, our stories will be changed too. It is about Jesus wanting to be a part of every one of our lives every day. That is the amazing story of Christmas!
Jesus was born to save us from sin and self. We may think that as a believer, Jesus was born in our hearts long ago. If we sit quietly in the presence of God and check to see if Jesus is the Lord of every area of our life, we will still find areas that have not come under the Lordship of Christ! There are no compartments in a believer's life. We cannot follow Christ in selected areas of our life. As a believer, we have to follow Christ in every way, or we are not a believer at all.
My friend, the question we have to answer today is whether Jesus is born in every area of our life. Take time to reflect upon the priorities and act upon the prompting of the Holy Spirit so that our lives will be changed, to be more like Him!
Joy to the World, the Lord is come; Let earth receive her King. Let every heart prepare Him room, And, heaven and nature sing. Isaac Watts
