Known, Loved and Chosen.

Bible Reading : Psalm 139.

At first glance, Psalm 139 seems to portray an inescapable God who knows every thought and movement, making David appear almost trapped by God's presence.  As the psalm unfolds, we can see that God's omniscience and omnipresence are not a threat but a comfort.  What first appears to be surveillance becomes a beautiful confession of God's unfailing love, care, and guidance.  David delighted in being fully known and fully loved by God!

We may get nervous if we see video cameras monitoring us.  Our unease stems from our doubt about the good intentions or goodwill of those who watch us.  It brought to mind our youngest granddaughter, who, when she was little, used to play in the room where our daughter-in-law worked.  She was just happy to be close to her mother!

The question we have to answer today is: Are we intimidated by God’s presence, or do we feel secure in His presence?

This all-knowing God knows me, knows everything I am going through now. My tears and my pain are not hidden in His sight.  And God will act on my behalf at the right time.  When the Israelites suffered under bondage in Egypt, at the right time, God delivered them.

The Lord not only knows me but has hedged me behind and before.  God hedged David on every side, so that nothing could come to David unless it first passed through God’s permission.  What was true for David is true for all who trust in the LORD.  As with the hedge, God protects us with His hands.  This is an  expression of God’s love and care. This was not the hand of oppression, but the hand of grace.

When the Lord is with me, even the night shall be light about me.  What a promise. As the pillar of cloud illuminated the nights in the wilderness (Exodus 13:21) with God’s presence, our nights too shine as day.  And God leads us according to His plan.

My friend, we may feel unnoticed and unappreciated—as wives, mothers, caregivers, or employees. Remember, God sees every unseen sacrifice.  People may misunderstand us, but God's thoughts toward us are always loving.  God does not search us to condemn us but to restore us.  Do not feel discouraged, for it is on our side.

Prayer: Lord Jesus, help me find comfort and assurance in Your presence. Amen
