God's Hand of Protection

Bible Reading: Psalm 46:1-11

A friend of mine lives in Coimbatore, near the foothills of the Western Ghats, in Booluvampatti.  That place is frequented by elephants, leopards, and bison.  Even black leopards have been sighted there.  She lost her husband a few years back, and my friend lives there without any fear.  We prayed together often, and one day, when I called her, she said that she had seen a poisonous snake in her garden and was afraid of snakes.  As the gardener was looking for it, she felt fear rising within her, and she said that I had called at the right time.  As I prayed, a vital fact dawned on me!

Until we see the snake, we do not realize its existence.  Even when we do not see the snakes, they surely exist!  They are roaming freely on the hillside.  Only when the Lord shows us these creatures can we know the dangers God is shielding us from every day!  And that filled my heart with praise!

It is possible to walk the path of life without knowing where our steps will fall.  We do not know if our foot will step on good ground or dangerous and slippery ground.

God's protection is not a one-time or occasional activity.  God's protection is not limited to our physical life but covers every aspect of our lives—our physical, emotional, and spiritual realms.

God is protecting us constantly from every danger, even from those our physical eyes do not see.  "God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble," says the Psalmist in Psalm 46:1.  It is constant and unwavering.  Psalm 91 says that God will deliver us from the Fowler's snares and perilous pestilence.    If we take refuge under His wings, we do not have to be afraid of the terrors by night and the arrows by day.

My friend, you are never alone.  The Lord is with you.  The situation we see may not be encouraging.  Sometimes we feel His presence, and sometimes we do not, but God is always with us.  That is His promise.  Let us walk in the assurance of God's protection, knowing that He is always with us, watching over us and loving us.   The Lord is the ultimate source of strength and security, even when circumstances seem unpredictable.

Prayer: Lord Jesus, today I claim every one of Your promises to keep me safe over my life and my family.  Guide me in the path You have ordained for me.  Thank You, Jesus, for Your constant presence and protection.  Amen.
