Faithful in little things!

The dictionary defines faithfulness as the quality of being loyal.   A faithful person is firm in adherence to promises and steadfast in affection or allegiance.  Faithfulness is not about faith, but it is about integrity.  The Bible says stewards are to be faithful (1 Cor. 4:2). Our role on this planet earth is one of stewardship.  The Bible talks about many blessings for those who are faithful.  Psalm 31:23 says, "…  the LORD preserves the faithful, and fully repays the proud person".   Faithfulness is an important character, and it is part of the fruit of the Spirit. The Bible says, "But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, kindness, goodness, faithfulness,  gentleness, self-control" (Gal 5:22-23).

The book of Exodus introduces Joshua as the sincere and humble assistant (Ex 24:13) or the servant of Moses, "…but his servant Joshua the son of Nun, a young man, did not depart from the tabernacle" (Ex 33:11). Joshua not only served Moses but was also the guard at the tent of meeting. We meet Joshua again as the leader of the whole nation in the book of Joshua.  He succeeded Moses in leading the people into the Promised Land, fighting hostile forces, and distributing the land to the tribes of Israel.  How did this transformation take place?  I believe God watched Joshua as he served Moses diligently, being faithful in the little given to him, and God chose Joshua as the next leader (Numbers 27:15-21).  We may not be holding an important position in our workplace or ministry now.  The role given to us may not be a significant one.  But God is watching us, seeing if we are faithful in the little given to us.  In the Parable of Talents, the Master of the servant said, "Well done, good and faithful servant; you were faithful over a few things, I will make you ruler over many things" (Matt 25:21).

My friend, the Bible teaches that whatever we do, we have to do it heartily, as to the Lord and not to men because our reward is from the Lord (Col 3:23-24). Let us humble ourselves under the mighty hand of God and do our work faithfully that He may exalt us in due season (1 Peter 5:6).
